Pyrite - Fool's Gold.

Home " Minerals " Pyrite Its nickname is "Fool's Gold," but it often contains a surprising amount of gold! Pyrite is a brass-yellow mineral with a bright metallic luster. It has a chemical composition of iron sulfide (FeS 2) and is the most common sulfide mineral.

Week 10 Update

5th Grade Weekly Update
Dear Parents, 

October approaches its end and our Fancy Dress Day will be held next Thursday, October 31st. This can only mean that our mid-semester break is approaching. Please note that there will be no school on Friday, November 1st  and Monday, November 4th.   

With time seeming to fly due to all of the fun that we are having and all that we are accomplishing, it will be the middle of November before we know it, so please keep in mind that our Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held in the afternoons and evenings from November 11th to 15th. I look forward to discussing your child’s progress with you then.


What we learned this week
Maths: Topic 5 – Dividing by two-digit divisors. Topics 1-4 Cumulative Multiple Choice Test next Tuesday.

We are more than halfway through October now so the end of the first quarter is fast approaching.    With time seeming to fly due to all of the fun that we are having and all that we are accomplishing, it will be November before we know it, so please keep in mind that our Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held in the afternoons and evenings from November 11th to 15th. I look forward to discussing your child’s progress with you then. We still have a little less than a month left until then, but I hope that you will look ahead and ensure that you will be able to attend the meeting.

Week 8 Update


5th Grade Weekly Update
Dear Parents,

Our eighth week together has come to an end, which means we’re nearly halfway through the first semester of Grade 5. We have a poster in our room representing the forty weeks of the school year and we are crossing out the weeks to practice working with fractions which come up in a future Maths topic. At this point in time,  eight of our forty weeks together have drawn to a close (that is one fifth) and by the end of Week 10, a quarter of Grade 5 will be over. 

With this in mind, and as the end of October draws nearer, we will have our Fancy Dress Day on Thursday, October 31st which is the week after next.
